You and I, let us be Agents of Peace
We have the vision of a society unified in diversity. A society led by holistic development resulting from respecting Human Rights, the non-violent transformation of conflicts, inner healing, and reconciliation initiatives - all in the image of the love of God and our neighbor.
Our History
As the Diocesan Commission for Justice and Peace of the Catholic Church in Rwanda founded in 1988, we are part of the Civil Society . Together with the members of society, men, women, girls, and boys of the Diocese of Butare, we actively seek peace and integral justice through non-violent means. We are an enthusiastic and committed team that believes in the cause of its mission. We know that peace and justice are interdependent, which is why we expose injustices, and prevent and transform conflicts. We are the CDJP Butare.
What we dream
We have the vision of a society unified in diversity. A society led by holistic development resulting from respecting Human Rights, the non-violent transformation of conflicts, inner healing, and reconciliation initiatives - all in the image of the love of God and our neighbor.
Our THEMATICS AREAS OF INTERVENTION
We believe that every person is able to change and that every voice counts. We are convinced that the beneficiaries themselves know their challenges best and have insights on possible ways to overcome them. That is why our approaches are based on participatory methods.
Reconciliation and Inner Healing
In the area of healing and reconciliation, we target the various members of the Justice and Peace Structures, from the Diocesan level down to the Small Christian Communities. We also work closely together with priests and other religious communities as well as survivors and perpetrators of the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in 1994 with their families.
Non-violent conflict transformation
Our approaches in non-violent conflict transformation are first and foremost based on training in the area of psychosocial accompaniment, such as Active Listening, Restorative Circles, Psycho-education and Non-violent Communication. We also use the sharing of experiences and testimonies, brainstorming, debates and role-playing as a way to raise awareness and to show the power of nonviolent transformation of conflicts.
Advocacy and Promotion of Human Rights
As the Diocesan Commission for Justice and Peace of the Catholic Church, we are part of the Civil Society. We know that peace and justice are interdependent, which is why we expose injustices, prevent and transform conflicts. Together with the members of our structures in the Diocese of Butare, we actively seek peace and integral justice through non-violent means.
Organizational Capacity Building
The Justice and Peace Structures from the level of the Diocese to the level of the Small Christian Communities are at the heart of our work and thus of the pastoral care of Justice and Peace. Therefore, the target groups in this area are the staff of the Justice and Peace Commission Butare, the priests, and the Justice and Peace volunteers in the communities.
